Sheila Bury - Fine Artist

I am a local artist and work from my home studio by the River Don in South Yorkshire.

Although I attended the Junior Art Department of Nottingham Art College and took A Level Art as a Mature student, I am mainly self-taught. I have always had the desire to draw and paint.

I draw my inspiration from the surrounding countryside which has great natural beauty with stunning views all year round. I love the muted colours of Winter when frost brings a magical quality to the scenery; the vibrant shades of Autumn and the fresh greens of Spring - and always the light reflections on the water. The weather adds a further dimension to the scene as views change dramatically when the river floods.

The paintings of Samuel Palmer have inspired me, as have the impressionist landscapes of Alfred Sisley and Pissarro and the woodland paintings of Gustav Klimt.

My work has been published in The Artist, Yorkshire Life, Yorkshire Post, Waterways World, Canal and Riverboat, Leisure Painter and in local newspapers in Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield. I paint in oils, watercolour and acrylics and exhibit locally two or three times a year. I also undertake private commissions.  Paintings of house and garden, river craft, pets and favourite holiday landscapes are among subjects previously commissioned.
