Louise Hay - Awards ManagerThe Art & Framing Industry Awards are a celebration of everything that’s excellent in our trade. Has your gallery performed head and shoulders above your competitors this year? Did your sales promotion team achieve the impossible? If so, you should be entering the Art & Framing Industry Awards 2010.

In the current economic climate, the marketing value of winning or being shortlisted for an Art & Framing Industry Award can't be underestimated.

However, winning an Art & Framing Industry Award isn’t easy – it’s not meant to be, they’re only awarded to the very best. But there are some simple steps you can take to give yourself the best possible chance...

First, you need to enter. Obvious, I know, but you’d be surprised at the number of members who like to complain that they “never win”, but at the same time have never entered.

Second, you need to ensure that you send us only your very best entries. There’s nothing worse for a judge than seeing few desultory words and some badly scanned photos all printed out on ordinary inkjet paper – this is your opportunity to show the judges exactly what a creative industry can do. Start setting aside pristine examples of marketing, press coverage and other support materials so that you have the best of the bunch to choose from when you come to submit your entry.

And third; read the rules carefully and make sure that you have submitted all the relevant information. You don’t want to be eliminated from the competition on a technicality. For instance, when we ask for financials do please send them to us, and in the required format. We won’t publish them, but our judges need them in order to be able to make a sound judgment on the success of your business. If we don’t have enough information to go on, you won’t make it to the shortlist.

The Art & Framing Industry Awards, hosted by the Fine Art Trade Guild, are now in their eighteenth year and in 2010, are set to create an even bigger splash as we celebrate the Guild’s centenary year. Winners will be announced during the evening of the 15 May as we return to Stratford-upon-Avon for a glittering Awards dinner and ceremony. Bookmark this page and return in October when the awards categories are launched; look out for the announcement in October’s Art Business Today or register your interest now by emailing me.

Entering the Art & Framing Industry Awards can bring many benefits to you and your team: as a unique marketing tool; as a way to demonstrate your professional excellence; and as a terrific motivator for staff. Once you’ve got your entry in, you can sit back with confidence and wait for the shortlist in April 2010. And you might want to start thinking about that outfit for the big night during the January sales, just in case…

Good luck!
