GCF Advanced Mount Design and Function
GCF Advanced Mount Design and Function is a test of skills required when creating mounts. Work presented must be of faultless quality and attractively presented
You should be able to:
- Recognise different types of paper based artwork
- Work with different shapes, thickness of card and the additions of other materials to a mount
- Design and produce individual, creative mounts
- Advise clients regarding risk factors involved, including transport/storage
- Understand and access pieces with regard to handling and specific framing requirements, including appropriate levels of framing.

Requirements
For all Advanced modules, you must be:
- A GCF
- A Guild Member
- Experienced in the module chosed
- Up-to-date with the specifics of materials, techniques and framing levels required
- You must maintain your Guild Membership if you wish to promote your GCF Advanced status

How long does the exam take?
Candidates are tested individually on a one-to-one basis with the examiner. Each exam takes approximately three and a half hours with time beforehand for practice. Results are notified to the candidate 10–14 days after testing
What do you need?
You will need to prepare and show the examiner three pictures, as described in the GCF Advanced Accreditation Mount Design and Function Study Guide. These are: a multi-windowmount of 6 images framed to
Commended Level; an artwork with a creatively designed mount incorporating your speciality framed to any level; and an artwork mounted with 5 ruled lines and wash panel framed to
Conservation Level.

Candidates are also advised to prepare by reading the Guild's handbook on the Art of Mountcutting and other specialist publications. The Study Guide is only £10 to members & £12.50 to non-members. Make sure you have been making creative mount designs long enough and often enough to feel confident and competent in the required elements of the exam. If not, take a short training course with an experienced trainer. |

GCF Test Centres
Thanks to the generosity and support of Guild members we are able to offer GCF exam facilities worldwide. GCF Advanced examinations normally take place at the examiner's premises and overseas by an international examiner. It is also possible to take the exam at the candidate's workshop though an additional charge may be incurred
