GCF Advanced Textile Framing
GCF Advanced Textile Framing is a test of skills required when framing textiles. Work presented must be of faultless quality and attractively presented
You should be able to:
- Square/stretch cross-stitch, needlepoint etc
- Lace embroidery, tapestry and needlepoint
- Frame fabric art to conservation standards
- Show competence when handling fabric art
- Distinguish between various types of fabric used
- Distinguish between various types of needlework used
- Test for colourfastness

Requirements
For all Advanced modules, you must be:
- A GCF
- A Guild Member
- Experienced in the module chosed
- Up-to-date with the specifics of materials, techniques and framing levels required
- You must maintain your Guild Membership if you wish to promote your Advanced GCF status

How long does the exam take?
Candidates are tested individually on a one-to-one basis with the examiner. Each exam takes approximately three and a half hours with time beforehand for practice. Results are notified to the candidate 10–14 days after testing
What do you need?
You will need to prepare and show the examiner three pictures, as described in the Advanced Accreditation Textile Framing Study Guide. These are: a cross stich or other stitched work framed to
Commended Level; a piece of 3D textile art mounted and framed to
Conservation Level; and needlepoint close framed to
Conservation Level

A study guide, GCF Advanced Accreditation: Textile Framing, covering all aspects of the module, with full details of what the exam entails, is available. Candidates are also advised to prepare by reading the Guild's handbook on Framing Fabric Art and other specialist publications. The Study Guide is only £10 to members & £12.50 to non-members. Make sure you have been framing textiles long enough and often enough to feel confident and competent in the required elements of the exam. If not, take a short training course with an experienced trainer. |

GCF Test Centres
Thanks to the generosity and support of Guild members we are able to offer GCF exam facilities worldwide. Advanced examinations normally take place at the examiner's premises and overseas by an international examiner. It is also possible to take the exam at the candidate's workshop though an additional charge may be incurred
